30 - 50m x 15 - 20m
Straight, Erect and clear trunk, conical or ovoid as it matures.
Lanceolate 10 - 12cm long and 4cm wide irregularly opposite.
Male and female flowers grow on same tree. The male flowers are brown catkin 4-8cm to 2cm across.
Ovoid to globose cones to 12 - 15cm long to 4-8cm across.
Bark / Trunk:
1.5m - 2m in diameter generally smoothed bark that sheds and flakes over time.
Vigour / Longevity:
Extremely long lived, over 100 years, and will grow fast early in it's life.
Likes full sun and can handle warmer climates. Will tolerate frost once established.
Can handle temperatures down to 0deg C once established.
Soil / Drainage:
Prefer a well-drained, deep sandy to alluvial soils.
Train and prune to single leader when young.
Prefers drier conditions with moderate water.
Use a general slow release fertilizer.
Pests / Diseases:
Mainly used in parklands and open gardens as a feature tree. Commonly found around heritage properties as a landmark tree. Recently an avenue was planted in Centennial Park in Sydney.
