Phoenix

Phoenix

The Phoenix palm genus is native to Africa, Asia and Europe. Commonly used in Australia, and particularly in NSW parks and gardens where they are a majestic feature, lining roads, driveways, and entrances or planted as a stately specimen tree in formal designs. A large percentage of Phoenix genus grow very successfully in most regions of NSW because they seem to be able to handle many different climate conditions and soil types. Found in coastal situations and on into country NSW, they prefer a sunny situation and are tolerant of drought, frost, even snow, once established. Unfortunately Phoenix can suffer from fungal diseases and have large dangerous spikes at the base of the fronds. Phoenix palms range in size from 1m through to the 20m giants, so there is a species available and well suited to planting in a courtyard through to the largest specimens recommended for formal entrances, lining driveways in parks or on acreage.
