Pyrus |
Pyrus or Ornamental Pears are hardy, easy to grow, and are able to tolerate low levels of drought and intermittently wet soils. They grow to 8 to 12 metres, are best in full sun and are easily transplanted. Deciduous, in spring they have brilliant white flowers and the glossy green leaves that provide shade in summer give a wonderful autumn show of red orange and brown. Stunning in rows along driveways or on boundaries. The new Pyrus columnar cultivars make for an attractive streetscape and are reasonably tolerant of compacted soils and urban pollution. |
