Nerium

Nerium

Nerium or Oleanderis an evergreen shrub or small tree in the Apocynaceae family, toxic in all its parts and is the only species in the genus Nerium. Commonly known as Oleander, because of its resemblance to the unrelated olive Olea. The flowers, either single or double in groups on the end of branches, range from white, pink, apricot, to crimson, and flowering from late spring through summer, spot flowering into winter. A hardy, frost, second line salt, saline soil, mildly tolerant plant, and even fire retardant if well watered. There are many cultivars both standard and dwarf, which make for hardy screen/hedge/border plantings, tropical effect and tub and planter specimens.
