Magnolia Grandiflora |
The evergreen Magnolia grandiflora prefers a warm climate and deep, moist fertile soils. The classic white cup shaped waxy flowers have a strong citrus scent when they appear in mid-Summer. But the distinctive attribute year around is the glossy mid to dark green undulating leaves which have a furry brown underside (some cultivars are quite milk-chocolate), making them very popular with florists. The very talented Saskia Havekes has named her company 'Grandiflora' in honour of this lovely tree. Magnolia grandiflora cvs are a fabulous park, shade, specimen, flowering and colour contrast tree, and screening or informal hedging option. Several smaller Magnolia grandiflora cultivars are now available and suit large planter boxes and big leaf topiary applications. |
