Thuja |
Thuja or Arborvitae is a small genus of evergreen conifers native to North America and Asia. Several of the species are among the world's most valuable softwood timber trees (Thuja plicata - Western Red Cedar). Thujas generally form a tight pyramid habit with aromatic lime to mid green scale-like leaves. Preferring fertile, well drained soils, a sunny position (not west sun) protected from salt winds, Thuja are not a drought tolerant genus and do better in cool, moist, elevated locations. Best uses include formal and conifer gardens, screen/hedge/border plantings, and foliage colour contrast. |
