Schinus

Schinus

Schinus is a genus of flowering trees and tall shrubs in the sumac family, commonly known as peppertrees. The Peruvian Pepper Tree (Schinus molle) is the source of pink peppercorns, but can become serious invasive species outside their natural habitats. Enjoys even west sun, but needs a fertile well drained soil to grow well even though it's mildly frost, drought and neglect tolerant once established. Schinus are a suitable choice for a shade tree, as the branches weep pleasantly and the leaves have mild insect repellent properties. It's worth noting that the vigorous roots should be kept away from paths, drains and building structures.
