X Cupressocyparis |
X Cupressocyparis are a cross between two different genera Cupressus and Chamaecyparis hence the X. There are several cultivars with a variety of colours and forms. X Cupressocyparis is an extremely hardy plant, tolerating wind, pollution, temporary inundation, severe frosts, even first line salt and neglect. Kept clipped it makes a dense and beautifully formal hedge and topiary plant when used in the right place and maintained regularly - on extensive grounds. However it has become a battleground for neighbours in highly urban areas, especially if not kept under control, and is now outlawed or subject to strict guidelines by most Sydney Councils. Known to grow to 25 metres in 25 years. |
