Stenocarpus

Stenocarpus

Stenocarpus is a genus of around 25 species of evergreen woody trees or shrubs in the Proteaceae family, nine of which occur in the rainforests of Eastern Australia and the monsoonal areas of Northern and Northwestern Australia. Of these, Stenocarpus sinuatus, the Queensland Fire Wheel Tree is the most well known because of its unusual flowers and the dark green glossy leaves with a distinctive lobed shape. Flowering from early Autumn to early Winter and attracting nectar feeding birds, Stenocarpus sinuatus is best grown on deep, moist, well drained soils (sandy/clay loams) with a high organic content. Best used as a street, shade, screening tree or in a native rainforest garden.
