Ulmus

Ulmus

Ulmus or Elm are large hardy trees, highly valued as street trees and are used in parks and larger properties. They provide excellent shade, are wind resistant, and tolerate air pollution. A long-lived deciduous and semi-deciduous tree available in many varieties, the elm is slow growing and, when established, tolerant of drier conditions but does require good drainage. Mainly suited to cold to cool temperate areas in Australia. The best time for planting or transplanting is winter. Although Dutch Elm disease is not found in Australia, it is worth noting that the Chinese Elm is resistant to the disease.
