Koelreuteria

Koelreuteria

Koelreuteria paniculata or Golden Rain Tree, a native from Asia, is a moderately vigorous tree when grown on good deep soils, crowned with a broad dome of feathery green leaves, turning a deep golden yellow (in cooler climates) aging to brown in Autumn. The large decorative clusters of rich yellow flowers (hence its common name) appear in summer, then age to pinky seed pods filled with black seeds. The flowers are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Once established Koelreuteria paniculata is frost, drought, pollution and neglect tolerant, even inland, and prefers full sun position on a moist deep and even alkaline soil. A good shade, fruit, flower autumn colour contrast tree.
